SDSU Latinx Resource Center Identity
Design Brief
The SDSU Design Studio Class partnered with the Latinx Resource Center to create a new logo and identity. The LRC provides a space for Latin American students to thrive academically, socially, and mentally and their values include intersectionality, inclusivity, equity, and social and racial justice. Students were tasked with creating a logo for the center as a whole as well as their Comunidad Scholar’s Program, where first year students are provided with a mentor to help them navigate life on campus. The client wanted the mark to be easily identifiable and relate to Indigenous/Mesoamerican cultural elements.

Solution
I wanted to create a modern logo and branding system for the Latinx Resource Center and Comunidad Scholars Program. I focused on using bold typographic elements paired with a striking “X”. Although the “X” is simple, it is inspired by indigenous Mesoamerican architecture and culture. To create more interest and a broader branding system, I created different elements and patterns, relating to various Latinx cultural elements, that could fit within the frame of the “X” which can be used for different event promotions, social media posts or deliverables. I used the same system when creating the Comunidad logo but instead of using the “X” as the frame, I utilized the “O”. All elements in the branding system relate to one another, but no two are exactly the same creating more variety.
